04 rx8 won’t rev past 5000 rpm

Hi so I have a 04 rx8 I’ll start the car will run great revs up to 9000 rpm after
battery disconnected few minutes later check engine light comes on and the
car will only rev to 5000 rpm tops any idea what it could be? I’ve changed
plugs wires and coils and new starter I’m stumped at this point it’s like a limp
mode car has good compression so I have no clue
