Clean your throttle body & IAC with throttle body cleaner & different size nylon brushes and install new gaskets.

If your check engine light is on get it scanned at a auto parts store.

spark plugs and wires are good. truck is showing no lights when it dies. changed the coil pack last night- all looks good there

May be a good idea to test the IAC. Some issues with idle are trans related torque converter lock up solenoid but this can also cause stalled when trying to take off after putting in gear, but if its not too bad may only affect idle conditions.

it only stalls out and dies when stopping or slowing down when it gets to normal running temp. as long as the accelerator is pressed and the rpms are kept at or above 1000 it wont die

If your battery is weak this can be a problem too as when at idle the engine runs off battery instead of alternator. Reset the computer as if the IAC was dirty it needs reset now and it may help out too. I believe on those you still disconnect the negative battery cable for a few minutes. May not be the issue but just as a tip. The intake manifold on that engine has a lower plate which can leak causing a vacuum leak which cannot be detected externally. Look down the throttle body with the throttle plate open and inspect the bottom of the intake. If you see normal carbon and soot you are fine. If you see sludge or anything that looks thick you have a leaking lower intake gasket.

Yea that is why I think the IAC is the issue as it controls air into the engine when you take your foot off the gas, Then when you opening the the throttle body by pressing on the gas pedal it runs. So that would be my first part the diagnose. Its wire harness too, May still be dirty and or need to be reset now it is clean.

thanks for your help so far! when cleaning the throttle body today it was only soot. no sludge there. were gonna take a look at the pcv and hoses there first and go from there. well check out the battery as well.

If you recently took off you battery mine did the same thing. I just took a nice long drive to allow the throttle body to adjust. When driving let your truck coast as much as you can while your speed is up.
