the transmission doesn't seem to want to shift out of third gear, what could be the problem? when i take off it acts like it is in second or third and about the time i hit 40mph it doesn't shift and the engine's rmp is around 4,000 rpms
sounds like a sensor or or internal problem iwould take it yo a trans, shop and let a mechanic test drive.
This could be a solenoid, or it could be low pressure from the front pump. A solenoid or electrical problem would likely throw a code that could be read. More than likely your transmission is shot. I picked up a LOT of Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth minivans with bad transmissions like you're describing.
It sounds like you are in limp mode, 2nd gear only, and you need to take it to a shop for a scan.
