What type of encine heater should I use in my 2006 Buick Rendezvous

Some sort of block heater. There are several types but I would go with what your mechanic suggests.

There are block heaters that go into one of the block freeze plugs. Depending on where a freeze plug is located on the engine and access to it it could be an easy or hard job. The other choice is one that goes into the heater hose, much easier to install.

These cars usually heat up pretty quick, At least my 2006 does. But I agree with Barney. You want to stay away from the freeze plugs and use the in-hose style heater.
