I have a 1987 ford ranger 4x4 I broke the front LH side axel the seal that the axel passes throw busted at the differential does it go on the inside or the out side of the differential?

I believe this seal goes in from outside the differential so you should be able to replace it without disassembling the differential. Check a Haynes manual to be sure.

The axle seal should be an exterior type . this type would be installed from the outside ( just make sure the seal lip is facing the right way.
