Question type: General

Looking at a 1981 with removable glass tops and an automatic but the listing does not state engine.  Does all Corvettes come in a V8 or do I need to ask if it has a V6 engine.

According to the CarGurus overview of the '81 Corvette, all '81s had a 350-ci small-block V8 that put out 190 horsepower: http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Overview-c435-1981-Corvette.html Hope that helps, myrtcan!

I have heard this over-and-over from almost every-source out there...but it is a LIE. It was 1983-84, and a friend of mine (who had served in Vietnam) did a lot of older sports cars restorations. He had started dating a girl in a nearby town who had a really good job...and she was pretty easy-on-the-eyes, as well. She also drove a NEW 1981/2 Corvette...she said she had purchased it as a 'close out' off a dealership lot in her hometown...WISH TO GOD that I could remember the 'L-designation' on the hood (thought it was L-48, but it wasn't)...it was white with red interior, AC...and A FACTORY GM V-6 engine! (that's why the 'L-designation' on the hood would have been very important to remember). I know she didn't know the working end of a carburetor...and looking under the hood, it was still untouched...no dirt, no nothing but OEM. (who in their right mind would have done that to a NEW CORVETTE?! It is also my guess as to why she was able to purchase it for $16,500, as she said...it couldn't move off the dealership lot! I've seen one...fully loaded, from A/C and cruise, to tilt, telescopic, defrost rear, etc...but letting me drive it to the store, my god, I had a Chevette in high school that was 'more responsive'...the word 'slug' couldn't even BEGIN to describe that thing...but she claimed it got 23-mpg, and she loved it. One off? Like finding a 427 in a 1969 Camaro? Possibly a 'end of the line' joke for that body style...but I know I saw one...almost 40-years ago, damn thing looked STRANGE with so much room in front of the engine...fan shroud had to be nearly 1-foot from waterpump to back of radiator! It did exist...but who knows 'with what engine', or 'why'?
