Use a floor jack to get jack stands under the car. Put on safety glasses. Remove the rear u-joint bolts, pry the u- joint away from the differential, then slide the shaft out (put your drain pan uder the yoke to catch more fluid). Disconnect any wiring, cooling lines, and the speedo cable from the trans. remove the torque converter cover. Remove the flexplate bolts by rotating with the gear teeth with a large screwdriver or a pry bar. Put a block of wood on the floor jack cradle or rent a trans. jack and put under the trans. Loosen the bolts mounted to the back of the engine block. Then remove the bottom bolts first, the top ones last. Keep the trans. squared up with the engine and have your helper and you pull back on the trans. Be careful to keep it balanced and watch out for the torque converter falling out.
