Can’t open oil fill cap

I have a 74 Chevy Caprice Classic convertible with a 454 cid engine. I cannot
remove the oil fill cap. It turns, but I can’t pull it out.

Are you just spinning the cap or are you pushing down on the cap while you are turning? You want to push down and then turn.
