What is avg water temp and at what temp should fan turn on??
Just bought car - drove to FL via I-95, water temp avg'd. about 201-203, when in stop/start traffic, temp was about 207-208. Fan did not turn on. Took to mechanic - he put in new sensors - mech said fan would not turn on until 228 deg. Is this normal?? Is engine running hot or no?? (Have new thermostat, too.) THX!!
Sounds a little high for the fan to turn on at 228 degrees. Newer vehicles typically have two fans or two fan speeds, a high and a low. Low typically turns on around 212, and high towards 220-230. If you are not overheating I wouldn't worry too much about it, the fan is turning on, so you don't have a problem yet. Suggest having the cooling system flushed as a matter of maintenance, if the coolant is impure it may not be cooling like it should.
