Chrome on Tri-five Chevy

Asked by Maconman12 Dec 30, 2018 at 12:59 PM about the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Looking to get some top quality
chrome for a 1957 2 door post Chevy.
Who sells the best looking chrome?
When going to the car shows, some
really shine, while others do not. Is
DanChuk, Ecklers, East Coast Chevy,
etc. known for their top of the line
chrome over the others? Where
would you recommend I buy to get
the very best?

when looking at the suppliers, most will sell "GOOD" which is not bad looking chrome. as well they will list "SHOW QUALITY" or "BEST" which is very good looking. Chrome for the Tri 5 should be Tripple plated, Brass - Nickel then Chrome. Some places do Nickel - Nickel then Chrome which usually is not as shinny or smooth. As well this only refers to the actual Chrome, which are the heavy parts on the car. All the lighter trim would be Stainless Steel, not chrome. To improve the look of the Stainless it needs to be polished with a high speed Lambs wool wheel, either with a grinder or hand held device like a drill, (just not to fast or hard to burn it).

just a correction to my last post. it is actually Copper first not Brass, my bad. as well some guys ask for triple chrome dipped after the regular process to improve the shine. i have read posts where people bought new "show quality" chrome & did not like the lack of shine and ended up re-chroming to match the rest of the car. sometimes it is cheaper to redo the existing chrome you have.
