Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I want to know what the little black box marked Relay and Fuse that is mounted
on the piece that holds the cars battery in place? It appears to go to positive
battery cable (i think anyway). What does it operate. The car won't start and has
a new battery but when you turn the key power goes dead!

Thank for the info! The battery was bought today and tested,I'll probably try jumping it tomorrow! I'll have to have it towed to the shop I use to see about the alternator,I'm in a wheel chair so things like getting to the alt. is not possible for me!, but I may just have it junked because it also needs a oil pan gasket and the valve cover gasket too, rusting out too but thanks again for the onfo!

Thanks for the info. The new battery did not drain though , it's just that when you turn the key all the electric(dash lights ect.) just stop! When you put the key in the ignition the dash lights come on but as soon as you turn the key they are gone like there is no power and is no sounds made of any kind when you turn the key! I tried putting it in neutral to start it but it goes the same thing! I only thought about putting my charger on the jump start and trying just to try something different not because the battery drained,it's still charged! I may have AAA tow it in to get looked at,that won't cost much and I'd like to be able to move it when I need to until I get rid of it,not sure what I'll do but eben if I sell it as aproject car it would be nice to be able to start it! Thanks Again
