I need serious help fast please 2000 toyota camry 4 cylinder

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 toyota camry, i have recently changed the alternator for the third time. The next day my battery died so i tried to jump it and the guy helping me crossed the cables on my car. Needless to say my battery was shot. So after replacing the battery and the efi fuse it stared up and i was able to get it home. It currently sits with another blown efi fuse from me trying to start it and the alarm system going off. I believe it is an aftermarket alarm, it has a small red button on the left of the steering column and the fob that I have won't shut the alarm off. Also doesn't have any power to the locks, windows, any dashboard lights or gauges, or any lights. but headlights still come on by themself when car starts.

Wow....sounds like the ultimate definition of a bad day. Ok lets see if we can help. Without the aid of a wiring diagram....look in the owners manual for a section which shows pictures of the location of Fuses And Circuit Breakers for this vehicle. Use a 12 volt test light and start checking fuses with the key on and engine off. The aftermarket alarm syxtem should be disabled to rule out that as the root cause. BTW.....when a jump start is performed incorrectly...the Alt fuse located under the hood in relay box #1 blows open to protect the rest of the electrical system. You might need a Pro to help you with this issue.

Suggestion. Find the fuse for the Alarm System. Disable the system Check the 100 amp ALT fuse under hood. Get back with results.

Was that Alt fuse blown? Was it bolted in place....requiring removal of the fuse box?

the ALT fuse was bolted requiring me to pull the fuse box, that holds the ALT fuse, out. in doing so I disconnected a orange looking box underneath the fuse box. could not be seen without removing the middle fuse box. now everything works. thank you for all the help and suggestions though

Interesting....... and congrats on your good eyes and subsequent repair. Curious.....why 3 Alt replacements?
