Timing Cover Leak Question - 2004 Toyota Corolla with low mileage

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello and Happy Holidays,

My mom has been told by the dealer that her "timing cover is leaking" and it
would cost $1200 to repair. There is no leakage of oil on the ground in her
driveway. She had it looked at by a second mechanic, who confirmed that
there was a leak, and that he would do it for "half of the dealer quoted price".
I have been reading info on this, and have seen that it could be related to a
smaller repair needed (bolts, crank seal/position sensor, oil pressure sending
unit/switch). I also have heard that it could be a "scam" of sorts and she is
elderly. Any advice you could provide would be great - thank you!

Unbelievable! Same thing happened to me! Toyota santee ca. 1100 bucks. No way! I had gone in for oil change. Do you think they damaged our cars? This happened to my parents in oceanside but my dad caught them! Wish he were still here Listen ! I don't believe them. My dad was persistent his entire life as a whistleblower and a person who caught people trying to scam him or someone else. One thing I learned is he wouldn't give up. When in doubt don't so don't believe them until you're certain period in the meantime keep us posted here on what happens. There are so many liars and scammers. But don't let them rip off your mother
