Driver Side Rear Running Light and License Plate Light Not Working, '99 Chevy S10, Blinker and Brake Lights Work, Wiring Issue

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 99' Chevy S10 rear driver side tail light won't work as well as driver side
license plate light. I checked fuses under hood and in cab, they are okay. I
checked the the tail lights and replaced them and those work fine. When I
turn on my lights at night however the rear driver side tail light wont work. I
checked under the car and noticed the previous owner had done some
wiring work and it appear corroded. Following the wire to the corroded spot
I removed the tape and found the wire had split. I reconnected the wires,
tied them together and taped it up and it still doesn't work.

Attached is a picture of what I had found prior to reconnecting the wires.

Any suggestions? Could it be more corrosion elsewhere? What am I
looking at to get this fixed parts wise myself or price wise at a mechanic?

I believe your problem is right there. When a wire gets corroded, it would need to be cleaned good. That is brown wire to brown wire, thats where it goes, just try making a better connection. Should use a test light to see if there is power there. To have a mechanic look at this, it should take him long to repair this. He'll also check the rest of the wiring and the bulb socket. Shouldn't cost that much.

After checking all my Fuses and checking the wiring, I found the issue was a pin in the wire connector was pushed back not making contact with the other plug. Pulled pin to be even with others and plugged it in, all lights working fine now
