1970 chevelle convertible non running worth

Asked by Thisfooalex4 Jul 21, 2016 at 07:15 PM about the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

We have a non running 1970 chevelle
convertible that's in progress to be a SS
clone. We have alot of the upgraded parts
some of which are already installed. The
car hasn't been running for about 8 years.
We're not sure what the going rate would
be for this car. Any ideas what we could
get out this? Is it better to get it up and
running ourselves?

It really depends on condition and quality of the work. Bad low-quality "get it up and running" work will negatively affect price, but as you say this is a clone, no one is ever going to give a concourse restoration. More like a resto-mod or street machine. In all honesty, you could put a ton of money into the car getting it running and not make any of it back. I'll give you my point of view - I look for uncompleted project cars like yours and take them off a frustrated or broke owner's hands, and they generally lose money on the car. If you want to make money from the car will all you have invested in it, it needs to be a finished car and done nice - and aim for a niche in the muscle car scene - again, resto-mod, pro-street, etc. If you give up and sell it as a non-running basket case, you will get low-ball offers. Sorry for the contradictory point of views lol.
