Can someone please tell me if the numbers on the heads of my 70 chevelle SS 454 ls5 should be facing towards the front of the engine or the rear.

Yes I’m aware, they are interchangeable, they both have matching numbers in the casting, I just would like to know how they were installing from the factory, believe it or not, there is an R stamped on one and a L on the other before the numbers. Trying to find out if that means right/left. If so, facing forward would make sense. I recently had the engine worked on, id like to make sure they are correct. Thank you for your time.
I believe some big block heads had non symmetrical intake ports. I would do more research!
