Heat Shield Problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 95 Subaru Legacy has had some recent issues with rust on heat shields, the mid pipe was missing the lower shield when I received the car now the top has rusted so that the bolts no longer support it and now the shield rests on the pipe. The sound from the pipe vibrating against the heat shield is bearable but would it be okay to remove the rest of the shield without causing more damage to the car? I just want to know if it is advisable to remove the shield or just let it be and deal with the rattle.

Just take it out. It won't really effect anything unless you are doing some serious racing in your Subie. If it makes you feel more comfortable you can buy heat wrap and wrap your pipe and that will work just as well and last longer and not rattle.

Good to know thank you very much, could you find the heat wrap at a local auto parts store?
