Price for ignition control module

Asked by SAB3355 Sep 07, 2016 at 07:05 PM about the 1996 Pontiac Sunfire

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My ignition control module was bad.  The mechanic said these cars are
notorious for having them go out.  He was apologetic about the cost of the
part.  Anyway, I ended up paying $400 for a new module with 1 yr/12,000 mi.
warranty.  Too high?

List price (retail) for just the module, genuine Pontiac part is $313.64. If the mechanic used a genuine Pontiac part you got a fair deal. A replacement module from a parts store is about $100.00 less, probably still a fair deal. Remember that labor and diagnostic time needs to be added to the price of the part.

Thank you. $400 was for the part only. Do they all come with 1 yr/12,000 warranties? I guess it isn't too far out there then. Thanks again for your response.
