2000 pontiac grand prix overheating

Asked by Katjamari Jun 21, 2016 at 04:35 PM about the 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When sitting in stop and go traffic my temp
Guage steadily goes up, hasn't hit the red while
driving but does when I turn the car off. When
driving on the highway it never overheats but as
soon as I'm off the highway the temp Guage
starts going up. Not sure what to do?

How fast is it losing coolant? Have the cooling system inspected ...and tested, from radiator to water pump, to T-stat...Don't guess at this its a major cause of ruined engines from over heating. Regards

It isn't loosing any coolant that I can tell, I haven't had to add any and it isn't leaking anywhere under the car. I did check the radiator fans and they only come on when I turn on the air conditioning.
