y Pontiac Sunfire still runs. However the dash electronics keep quitting, and I can hear a clicking (re-setting?) sound from the fusebox.

Check for a loose or no ground at box. Is the box bolted down tight? If so then it could be the power wiring to it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Look to see what may be causing the power to it to be interrupted.

The box itself is tight on the side of the dashboard. I've discovered the problem only occurs when the car is in gear.

Sounds like it could be in the body control module, BCM. Does it effect the heat and a/c control too?
