My sisters 2000 Oldsmobile Alero fuel pump works when it wants to.

Can anyone tell me why this fuel pump is
doing the same thing it was doing before I
changed it. It works when it wants to.

Like what do you mean? The pump will run until proper pressure is built up and shut off, on, off continuously.

It will run then it want and the car cuts off and then you have to hot wier the pump long enuff to get it home

We have the same year and model car currently, we had this issuse as well we fixed it by replacing the fuel pump relay that's located under the hood on the driver side in the junction box. Your car is letting you know that the relay is about to stop work. Also a secondary fix i found would be take your trunk relay and put in place of the fuel pump relay, that are the same relay. You just won't be able to pop your trunk, you have to use your key.
