Using the AC causes the engine to heat up.

Asked by Ahmed Jun 29, 2016 at 06:40 AM about the 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drive a Mitsubishi Lancer 1993, using the AC causes the engine to heat up
when I am driving in traffic or on the highway, and it starts cooling down to
normal levels once I turn off the AC.
The coolant levels are good, both fans are running as expected, the radiator is
not clogged in any way.

Depending on what the temp. is outside and caught up in traffic, there would be insufficient cool air flow for the engine cooling system. Maybe an engine flush could do some good, coolant in the system may be old.

"I drive a Mitsubishi Lancer 1993" on such an old vehicle complete inspect the entire cooling system, Radiator, water pump, thermostat, hose and belts. A radiator can appear Ok but have lost a lot of cooling capability after 24 years! The AC compressor can be over loading the engine worn out? Check it too.

my 2013 AC is not working on passage side. Shop said a pen or some object might be stuck. How do I see if this is so without the dealer taking apart my hole dash.....
