Check for fuel pressure. Does this car have a fuel cut reset. You need a scanner to check the function of certain sensors and such if the basics are there. No broken timing belt? Does the car sound normal when you crank it over? Help me help you.

this car is my brothers inlaws car so i am trying to help him what happen he dove it to work no problem but when he tryed driveing home he said he started the car and said it started but when he did it sounded like something hit in the moter and so he gave it a lilttle bit of gaas and when he did that it started to blow out smoke and when he told me that i took a look at it and saw that the check engin light was on so i call a friend who had a computer and he said it was giveing me a miss fire on the 3rd spark pugg and so i took that plugg out i saw it was full of oil so changed all of them and also the coil pack it sound normal when it started pleace give me a call at 210 309 0140 thank you for your help timeing belt looks good

Timing belt may be in one piece, but may still have jumped a tooth it it is old. These belts MUST be replaced about every 60k miles. The sudden hit and smoke concerns me. Does the car run? If it runs well enough to idle, let it get up to operation temperature and then turn it off. You will now pull the #3 spark plug and check for coolant in the cylinder. I have also had troubles with vermin nesting in air intakes and such. Check thoroughly for any sign of foreign matter in the intake. If you find ANYTHING in this tube, it is a good idea to check deeper.

i was wondering if you think it could be the number 4 fuel injector because when i finly got it start it gave me the number 4 miss fire and because the timeing belt still looks good and the car only has 64000 miles and i really dont know what else do please help and theirs some tricks to the car

Before you had a misfire on number 3, now it is number 4? This could be an indication of your problem. The misfire shouldn't move around. Timing belts are supposed to be replaced about every 60,000 miles on most cars, yours is 4,000 over-due. The point is, when diagnosing a vehicle one must not assume anything. Don't get tunnel vision. I am curious to hear more about what exactly took place when the car went "bang" and started smoking.

I will take alook at the timeing belt and the fuel persure i will let you know more when i get dipper in

Consider how these troubles transpired before tearing too deep. Something like spark plugs will not cause a car to suddenly run bad, it would be progressive. This process of elimination can be used to narrow down the cause without even touching the car. If it starts and dies fuel pressure could be the issue, but "sudden" clogged fuel filter is highly unlikely. Did somebody put something in your tailpipe?

i was not able to check the fuel perssure because on the car ido not find any fuel perssuer outlet to check but i am starting not to think it is not the fuel because know the car stays on but i am not sure were to go i do not think some one put somthing in the tile pipe and i drove the car today around two blocks and it did not die but everytime i came to a full stop the car would shack like it was missing bad and their was no engin light to come on but when i got home i was looking under the and i saw the on the reserve tank the lid was crack i order the part today it will be in on wensday when it is in park it seems to be fine but when i put it in grear it starts missing but their is no smoke and it stills as power what do you think

Being that it runs, we are okay on fuel pressure, spark, and compression. Why does it run rough at an idle when in gear? The cracked overflow bottle concerns me a little. This could have been caused by excessive pressure in the cooling system do to a leaking head gasket, which would also cause it to run rough. I have seen situations before where a car will run fine under a load because combustion pressure keeps coolant out of the cylinder. At an idle or under low loads, the cooling system pressure may overcome the cylinder pressures and allow water in. I am not saying that is your problem, just a possibility. Usually if you turn a car with a leaking head gasket off when it is hot and start it again after it cools it will show significant signs of leakage such as smoke and very rough running. A number of sensors also can contribute to this. Oxygen sensors, coolant temperature sensor, MAF...these can all cause this type of problem. Have we checked for vacuum leaks? Lots of small hoses on this I think. I know you said you put plugs in it, how about the "wires" that go from the coils to the plugs? These are notorious for arcing to the head.

i am starting to think it may be the head because about 4 months ago befor all this started one of the hoses from the readier had a small hoe and clased it to over heat but after i changed it it worked fine and then this happend i am thinking the head has a bowl in it because it is aloumam do you think this cloud case it to run bad or what do you think could be it

No such thing as a "blown head". A leaking head gasket or crack head could definitely cause it to run bad, and could be caused by overheating.

the car overheated about 4 months ago i am thinking that is it what do you think

Sounds reasonable. There are ways to confirm it without disassembling the motor. You can look at the spark plugs and look for one that is clean. If so, it has been pressure washed and steam cleaned by water in the cylinder. With a pressure tester, you can pressurize the cooling system and check for coolant in the cylinders with all the spark plugs out. Hope this helps. Not sure whether you intend to repair or replace this vehicle but good luck!

To check fuel pressure you have to have a special tool for it I know this cuz I also own a 2003 Mitsubishi eclipse spyder with a 2.4L in it I also went through the miss fires jumping around I had a cylinder 2 and then the next day a multiple cylinder misfire I worked at a mechanic shop at the time and I pulled my boss in to help me and he's a master mechanic and he couldn't figure it out and we looked up forms and called dealers and no one ever heard of the 2.4L doing that

nope! all wrong your car is fine! dont worry about it. If your car cranks and turns on for a bit that good enough for everything to be in timing. How you my think there is low gas pressure because of misfire codes. Random miss fire codes are usually an electrical problem. Now next to your cam shaft sensor your grounds should all be together pinched on your motor by washers and screws. If your car in the past over heated its possible a ground took a heavey load inspect your grounds your finde one lose or a clip broken. Good luck! Robert Gomez Rgomezj909@gmail.com
