Why does a car bog down when the gas pedal. is pressed

Could be several different things. How long since it's last major tune up? Spark plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, ect. Could also just need a gas treatment ran thru it. Is it going completely dead or just bogging down(no throttle response) ?
