Question type: Maintenance & Repair

1978 GMC SERRIA GRANDA

I have disconnected the rear drive shave because the rear
end has went out .
I still have the front drive shaft hooked up .
I am having trouble finding a decent rear end to replace
the bad one .
Can I drive it with the front wheel drive part for a few days
u till I get a rear end located ?
3.08 gears .
Also thought about just putting a different geared rear end
in it , then switching the front gears .
What’s you though on that ?

Bad idea. The rear axle is still needed when you drive so if the bearings are bad you may get stranded when the rear axle finally self destructs. Clearly changing the gear ratio is an option.
