It might be the clock spring in the airbag assembly on the steering wheel. This must be replaced by a professional due to the explosiveness of the airbag and your saftey. So please take it to the lincoln garage you speak of for repair.

The beeping is coming from the air bag monitor.better let a pro diagnosis it so your not throwing parts at it.hope this helps

Listen to fordtech57 and Tom. That's a sophisticated system and mistakes are costly if the Air Bags are accidentally deployed or someone just throws parts at it. The most common Air Bag system I see in out fleet is from the front Seat belt retractors. It's right around $300 just for the Seat Belt alone. Don't cut corners with safety - go to the Dealer.
