Why the fuel economy light goes away when cruise control is set

I recently purchased a 2013 outlander sport and when I put on the cruise control
for 65 mpg and set it   the economy fuel light goes away which makes me think
I am not getting better gas milege  once I shut off cruise control the economy light goes back on green
that does not seem right ?

well the robot has to "gun it" sometimes, when you're being economical, you aren't going to 'gun it'....just don't use the cruise (cheesy rhyme) these things are more trouble than their worth, unless you're driving out of bakersfield coming to san franscisco in which case okay use this...don't like having my decisions made for me....guess that takes some getting used to-

This is per the factory specs. Your user manual explains that eco effectiveness is not displayed while cruise control is on. Why is irrelevant. I ALWAYS get better gas mileage with cruise control on than I do otherwise, even when I intentionally try to beat the cruise control’s mpg
