2002Accord anti-theft light is bloinking ALL the time

Asked by flafitz Apr 19, 2015 at 03:47 PM about the 2002 Honda Accord

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car only has 72,000 miles. Recently the red anti-theft light has started
blinking when I'm IN the car and driving...could this affect driving? What's up?
Also was told I need a new timing belt because of car's age, not
mileage...true?

Your car is now 13 years old. Most manufacturers recommend in the area of 75,00 to 100,00 miles or about 10 years. Think of it this way, the timing belt is a rubber fan belt which can snap, crack, stretch or jump off the pulley at any time. The mileage/time factors are guidelines as to the best time to replace them to avoid extensive engine damage. Do NOT tempt fate over this or it could result in very expensive engine damage if the timing belt suddenly fails by snapping while you are cruising down the road. Change it.
