1999 Ford Taurus SE Wagon, V6, won't start, no sound, no clicks, won't jump

Asked by Susan Apr 25, 2021 at 04:55 AM about the 1999 Ford Taurus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1999 Taurus SE wagon, was running good,  new
battery 3 mths ago, suddenly won't start, won't crank, won't
jump. Completely dead. Towed home. Not a mechanic,
what should be checked? Ran perfect day before,  earlier
that day. Has had a problem previously with this, but always
started second turning on of key. When oil changed,
mechanic said had a low piditive? Never specified what
part, nit battery,  new. Engine is V6, overhead cam. Can it be
fixed? Worth it? Need a car , no buses here.

The car can be fixed. It sounds like you have an electrical short somewhere. That requires someone checking each electrical circuit of the vehicle to find the wiring short. Have the car towed to a garage for diagnostic work.

I certainly wouldn't put too much $$ into a 99 taurus wagon , nothing major that's for sure .

Note the diagram for starter. Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good. As far as cranking starter motor, pull starter relay, use jumper wire between cavities 30 and 87 in diagram. The starter motor should crank the engine. If you try that, make sure transmission is in park or neutral and parking brake is set. Vehicle can't move. If key is in on position when you jump relay, depending on the problem, it may start and run? Jumping the switch side of relay, bypasses everything on control side of relay as far as cranking. Actually I had two starter diagrams for your vehicle. One with security system, the other w/o. If security system involved, even if you crank it, it still won't start. good luck
