1999 ford explorer wont start back up

My sister has a 1999 ford exolorer and she says it will start with a jump and stay running and driving, but will not start back up after being shut off, wich leads me to believe that it is not the altenator.I am thinking it is a bad connection somewhere. I live a long way away and am trying to figure it out before i go and attempt to fix it. Any help would be greatfull. thank you

bad alt,right now it is running off battery,is charging just enough to keep from killing the battery,which will eventialy happen leaving her stranded.
