we have an oil leak by the oil filter, any ideas what the problem is?

Sometimes the rubber oil filter gasket sticks when removing old filter and when new filter is installed will leak as there is a double gasket. Replace the filter making sure the filter mount has a clean metal surface for the filter gasket to seal.
