Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi everyone I need help,  my dakota is running hot,
I have replaced the thermostat still hot. All fluids
or at level, oil not milky,no white smoke, but she
starts off cold then darts up to hot then goes down
then up again. I have tried starting engine with Rad
cap off to see if coolant cycles but it all comes
back up,  is that the water pump?

No that is you have air in the cooling system there is a spill free funnel that you can purchase from most part stores that allows air to be bleed from system and anti freeze backs up into funnel until thermostat opens. Also check out YouTube videos on how to remove air from cooling system.

I had a similar issue. I replaced the water pump 93 5.2 4x4. I put antifreeze in and it ran hot. I had to continue to squeeze the upper radiator hose for about 40 minutes and top off the radiator until it settled. Air bubble in the system.
