Electric cooling fans

Asked by James Aug 24, 2017 at 07:30 PM about the 2006 Dodge Caravan

Question type: General

So one of the two electric cooling fans on my
Dodge Caravan started smoking so I unplugged it
can I still run the motor at a/c safely with only one
electric fan running?

Depends on how hot it is outside. Keep an eye on your temp gauge but suffice it to say, as long as you're not stuck in stop and go local traffic, and are rather cruising along at highway speeds, it shouldn't be an issue. Once you get off the highway if the temp starts to climb, turn off the A/C and turn the HEATER on FULL BLAST and open all the windows. That will draw the heat out of your cooling system just like the electric fan on the radiator except it dumps all that heat in the passenger compartment. Check with your local junk yard and see if they can get you a cheap, used cooling fan and replace it or wait til winter...
