I am removing the engine and trans. from my 1960 PV 544.  I would like to know how to get the shifter off the transmissiom.

The inside of the bottom of the shifter extension contains a "C" clip which holds the shifter extension on to the shifter stub . I use a very small pair of needle nose pliers to grab the "C" clip in the holes. I haven't found snap ring pliers strong enough to do the job hence the needle nose pliers with the long nose bent into a 90 degree angle. The clip is strong but removable
