starter problem

hi i am having a few problems with my 1996 vr6, i have just replaced my drive belt tensioner and belt after pulley bearing siezed, since replacing the engine wont start i am sure it cannot be connected to tensioner problem. The car was stood for about ten days before new parts fitted now when i crank engine the starter is turning but not engaging properly. i have removed starter and sprayed wd 40 on the shaft thinking it could be a bit tight seems ok would it be more likely a relay or starter motor thanks paul

remove the starter and manually turn the engine by hand with a wrench on the crank pulley. check the flywheel/flexplate or missing teeth. see if it wobbles at all. crank the starter while its NOT installed to make sure the gear is moving out to meet the flexplate.
