Wrong pcm installed on car - throwing code that should not exist

Asked by Xera23 Mar 31, 2014 at 12:28 PM about the 2002 Chrysler Sebring

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dealer disconnected the check engine light on my 2002 sebring, which I need to
reconnect. How? I found this out when I went to reinspect the car. I took it to the chrysler
dealership to get it checked out afterwards and found its throwing a p06 code, the pcm
installed is for a newer model car. The computer this car came from had an egr valve
installed while the one I own does not. Short of spending money on a new pcm is there
anyway i could get this car to pass texas state inspection? The code technically is there
due to a fault in the computer, should it be excused?

i would recommend finding the correct PCM for the car.. To avoid future confusion with inspections and having to explain every time. Also it may make the car not run at its highest efficiency if the PCM is looking for something that is not there?
