How do you remove the backup light assembly on a 1966 pontiac catalina

Trying to  get a good ground....have power but can't get the bulb to light

I would find the switch that turns it on when the car is put in reverse. Sould be around the steering column or, if it has a floor shifter, around the trans linkage or console.
