The OD light stays on. It happens while not in 4WD. Stopping and turning off the engine and restarting the vehicle the light goes out for while then comes back on. What could be the trouble?

I have a 2003 ford explorer. My OD light was coming on and going off. Then the engine light did the same thing. Guess What? IT was the solenoid in the tranmsission that had gone bad. The transmission had to be rebuilt.
