Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i took my 2008 ford ranger for mvi yesterday, just rolled 32k, and they found 3 balljoints and a tyrod end gone.they blamed it on me parking on gravel, not pavement.i beg to differ.i also have an 88 ranger with 240,000kms and the front end is original,un touched.

gravel doesnt do anything...... its defective.. ive never seen baljoints go that soon and ive seen many new vehicles that have been literally run into the ground (that were fords) and the balljoints not gone bad... go after ford to do the warranty cause thats bogus!!!!

Yeah man, someone is trying to get money out of you, although it should be covered by your 3year/36k warranty. i have an 05 and i go wheelin' with it regularly, and i park in gravel every day at the dealership. its my only vehicle and its driven atleast 50 miles a day, i've never had to replace ball joints or tie rod ends yet. they are going to go eventually, but i have seen a 2008 f150 with about 20k on it and i had to do an inner tie rod. its just a defective part. but to have 3 ball joints and a tie rod end go at 32k... Thats almost impossible. i'd look more into it if they are making you pay for it cuz it aint right

Yeah what ever mechanic told you that is a jackass.....parking on gravel would have NO effect on the condition of your ball joints.....Do you have large tires on your ranger......often taller or wider tires can put excess strain on the joints. But if you keep them greased it should not matter. Is your truck 4wd?

get another mechanic cause that one his an idiot, you d'ont put any wear on a front end or anything else when parked,no matter where you park.

wow someone is trying to take your money. I have an '01 with 102K on the original ball joints. 2wd with 31in at's and I beat on the thing. Im getting ready to go through the whole truck and replace everything but thats because its got 102k on it, just for safety and the next 100K. good luck!

No it does not have front end problems. I have a '99 ranger 2 wheel extended cab and I just replaced my front end after 10 year. If it rides ok for you then don't worrie about it. Heck I did not bother with it until I felt like replacing the front end parts. Upper and Lower BAll Joint and Shocks that was it. I work in the business and tell people, alwas get a 2nd or 3rd opinionn from diffrent companies. IF you do have a problem with your truck being so new, ask the Ford Dealer to take a look at it. Might be a factory problem. the mec was just trying to sell you somthing you don't need

HI, I have a Ford Ranger 2008 Xls. I drive daily 200-250 km sometimes about 400 a day on bad roads of Thailand. It still works fine after all these years. just replaced Repair kit and rubbers on it. Don't believe it. Ford has done a good job on these models of F150 types , so just go to a friend who knows about suspensions and you will see its just a scheme to make money from you. there is nothing worse than Asian mechanics. I trust my fords. good luck.
