The new 1993 Audi 90 took the place of the Audi 80 and got a new engine from the Audi 100. The 1993 Audi S base sedan featured a pretty powerful 2.8-liter, 172-hp V6 and 5-speed manual transmission. It was also a little bit longer this year, providing a touch more leg room in the back. New in 1993 were fold-down rear seats for more trunk capacity.
Standard features on the 1993 90 S include 4-wheel ABS, a driver's front airbag, a security system, power-adjustable driver's seat, heated mirrors, cruise control, fog lights, and rear defrost. There was little room left for options, but you could add on heated seats, a sunroof, or a 4-speed auto tran. Owners especially like the heated seat option, but they also give high marks to the precise handling and cornering of the 90 S and its general drive performance. It is comfortable and quiet inside. Low marks go to expensive repairs, some electrical problems, and still not enough legroom in the back.

Adding a few more features onto the base sedan, the 1993 Audi 90 CS sedan is the next step up from the S trim in terms of luxury items. It houses the same 2.8-liter, 172-hp V6 engine and 5-speed manual transmission as the S, with an optional 4-speed automatic. They sit on the same 15-inch tires, and come loaded with cruise control, fog lights, power driver's seat, power heated mirrors, 4-wheel ABS, driver front airbag, and a security system. But the CS adds leather seats, remote entry, and a power sunroof all standard. Aside from the optional auto tran, the only other options are heated seats (which all drivers recommend) and special paint.
The biggest complaint about all Audis, including the 1993 90 CS is expensive parts and repairs. Owners report a lot of little mechanical problems adding up to many repair shop visits. Drivers do like the modern looks and style of the 1993 90 CS, and comment particularly on its smooth handling and solid ride. Most feel the power is adequately enjoyable.

Take the Audi 90 CS sedan and add innovative all-wheel drive engineering, and you get the 1993 Audi 90 CS quattro. A four-door sedan, the CS quattro differs little from the front-wheel drive CS. It features the same 2.8, 172-hp V6, but comes only with a 4-speed automatic transmission, and not a manual. Fog lights, cruise control, security system, ABS, driver's front airbag, power seats, mirrors, locks, and windows, leather seats, and a sunroof are all similar to what you get on the regular CS. The 1993 90 CS quattro adds a high performance-tuned suspension and supportive sports seats, for when you take your luxury sedan off-road. A rear spoiler distinguishes it cosmetically. Heated seats and a ski bag are optional.
Not surprisingly, most 1993 90 CS owners love the all-wheel drive feature and its sure and confident footing in snow and ice. The easy handling and tight cornering make driving fun. The heated seats are also a big plus. On the downside, owners feel it should have more power and better pickup. Expensive repairs are always the number one complaint.
