Need a posh hybrid people-hauler with some serious pep? Take a look at Infiniti’s 2015 QX60 Hybrid midsize luxury crossover. Once known as the JX35, this gas/electric 7-passenger family car offers the power and comfort of its non-hybrid QX60 sibling, along with a few added bells and whistles, plus hybrid fuel efficiency. Like its gasoline-only kin, this classy crossover gets an upgraded standard continuously variable transmission (CVT), along with some additional exterior and interior colors for the 2015 model year.
Returning in a pair of trims, the front-wheel-drive-only (FWD) Base, and the all-wheel-drive QX60 Hybrid AWD, this snazzy mini-ute offers a sleek and swoopy profile, plenty of passenger room in all 3 rows of seating and a fairly decent, if not impressive, 76.5 cubic feet of cargo room. Said toting capacity matches that of its non-hybrid sibling and reflects well on Infiniti’s hybrid engineering, as the battery pack that drives the electric motor takes nothing away from this hybrid’s cargo cavern.
As mentioned, this Infiniti hybrid mini-ute adds Hermosa Blue, Graphite Shadow, and Majestic White to its list of exterior colors, with a high-contrast Wheat interior hue also newly available for 2015. However, the most noteworthy upgrade for this year is a tweak to the standard CVT that has it more closely mimicking the shifting of a traditional automatic transmission. Thus, the supercharged 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder (I4) powerplant remains hooked up with a 15-kilowatt electric motor, while the improved CVT again manages a total of 250 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded CVT also features an auto-manual function, while 4 driver-selectable modes—Standard, Sport, Snow, and Eco—return to compliment driving conditions and your mood. Of course, regenerative braking helps the I4 juice up the lithium-ion battery pack. All this leads to an EPA-estimated 26 mpg city/28 highway in FWD versions, while AWD editions return an estimated 25/28. Oh, and towing with a properly equipped FWD trim maxes out at 3,500 pounds.
Renowned for its luxury, the 2015 QX60 Hybrid returns boasting such standard appearance features as 18-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof, a rear spoiler, a power liftgate, and heated power-folding and power-adjustable mirrors.
Inside, look for standard leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats, reclining and sliding rear seats, and full-power accessories. Further creature comforts include cruise control, telescoping tilt-wheel steering, a remote garage door opener, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, a back-up camera, and tri-zone auto climate control.
Returning techno-goodies include Bluetooth hands-free calling and a single-CD/MP3 player with 6 speakers, satellite radio, and auxiliary audio input, all under the auspices of the Infiniti Controller’s 7-inch display.
Optional equipment again includes a number of packages offering such amenities as hard-drive-based navigation with an upgraded 8-inch display, rear-seat DVD entertainment, Infiniti Connection telematics, and an around-view camera system. Also in package form are further available add-ons, like 20-inch alloy wheels, genuine wood cabin accents, heated second-row seats, a heated steering wheel, advanced climate control, remote engine start, and a 13-speaker Bose premium audio upgrade.
Standard safety features, finally, include 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), front side-mounted airbags, 3-row head curtain airbags, front fog/driving lights, high-intensity-discharge (HID) headlights, and a remote antitheft alarm. Optional safety stuff, again in various packages, includes adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and intervention, lane-departure warning, front and rear parking sensors, front and rear emergency brake intervention, and emergency telematics via Infiniti Connection.
