2009 Bentley Brooklands Preview summaryImage

The name Bentley oozes sophistication, style, and size. The 2009 Bentley Brooklands is no exception. Introduced for the 2009 model year, the Brooklands is weighty, at over 5,800 pounds; fast, with a 0-60 time of 5 seconds; and, of course, luxurious, with premium leather, stainless steel, and genuine wood trim generously applied throughout its spacious interior. Only 550 of these rear-wheel-drive, four-passenger coupes are expected to be produced in a single Coupe trim level for ’09, establishing the Brooklands’ uniqueness in the upscale automotive market.

The ’09 Bentley Brooklands is powered by a tried-and-true, oh-so-powerful twin-turbocharged 6.75-liter V8 that pounds out 530 hp and an asphalt-eating 774 lb-ft of torque. This incredible power is harnessed to a six-speed auto-manual transmission and can propel the Brooklands to a Bentley-proclaimed top speed of 184 mph. The EPA estimates 12/20 mpg for the ’09 Brooklands, but needless to say, those who can afford a Bentley have matters other than fuel economy in mind.

The Brooklands, as befits a true luxury vehicle, is equipped with a sport-tuned, self-leveling, active height-adjustable suspension that, along with 20-inch painted alloy wheels, places the Brooklands’ ride and handling characteristics at the top of the Bentley lineup. Available upgrades to an already impressive brake system improve steering response and control even further.

The interior of the 2009 Bentley Brooklands is a voluminous marvel of subtle elegance and understated posh, with leather and glistening walnut trim embracing driver and passengers, who may even enjoy a relaxing massage courtesy of the heated and cooled bucket seats in both front and rear. Stainless steel accents highlight the Brooklands’ console, door trim, instrument cluster, and dashboard, unless owners decide to upgrade and replace the stainless with available alloy accents and the upholstery with ultra-premium leather. Needless to say, the ’09 Brooklands has all the toys necessary to provide a leisurely ride to the club, or the private jet, including power everything, reclining rear bucket seats, a 6-CD changer, voice-activated DVD navigation, rear backup camera, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth hands-free communications technology, and the ubiquitous universal remote garage door opener.

As for standard safety features, the ’09 Brooklands cuts no corners here, either. Four-wheel disc ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution and emergency braking assist, front and rear side-mounted airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), traction control, headlamp pressure washers, self-leveling and dusk-sensing Xenon HID headlamps, as well as a post-collision alarm system are all included with the 2009 Bentley Brooklands' $348,000-plus base price.

Because 549 of the expected 2009 production limit of 550 Bentley Brooklands are spoken for, it can be reasonably assumed that, but for perhaps a single malcontent, owners are pleased with this premium luxury automobile.
