The Cross Country version of the Volvo formerly known as the 850 might just be the hippest station wagon on four wheels. It's not your father's station wagon - unless of course you've got a really cool dad. XC is the updated and streamlined name of the Cross Country, which began as a trim of the V70 wagon in 2001 but was so popular that it became a separate model in 2002. The name evolved when Volvo's first true SUV, the XC90, debuted in 2003 This practical vehicle is great for carpooling, picking up groceries or home-improvement supplies, or long family road trips. It's also about the safest darned passenger car you can hope to find yourself behind the wheel of, with Volvo's abundant safety features: a full slate of air bags, an energy-absorbing interior and safety-cage passenger compartment, a collapsible steering column, and the legendary side-impact protection system (SIPS). You even have protection when hit from behind, as the Whiplash-Protection System (WHIPS) moves the head restraints slightly backward upon impact, limiting injury. The 208-horsepower engine delivers acceptable fuel economy at an estimated 19 city/26 highway. Drivers of the 2006 XC70 sing praises on its spaciousness and substance. It's the perfect choice for those who need this kind of functionality but don't wish to drive a typical SUV.

There have been absolutely no maintenance or mechanical issues with this car. It drives like a dream and is a smooth, quiet ride. The stereo system is nice and the seats are comfortable. It is fantastic if you have children and need extra space for friends or pets. Aug 19, 2012

Great power with de 5cyl Turbo.
This model as a confort / sport switch for the suspension (Active Four C System)
Looks great with the Thule box on top.
Really a safe car to drive in winter time.

voiture très bien conçue, bonne qualité d'assemblage, équipement de qualité, agrément de conduite, confortable, système AWD très efficace, beaucoup d'espace de chargement, bon système de son, très bien équipé. Mon meilleur achat depuis longtemps ! Consommation d'essence un peu élevée mais quand même acceptable.

I love the plush leather/cloth seats that hug you on long trips. The combination of leather/cloth is nice because you don't stick to it on those hot summer days. I love the versatility of suv/wagon and how easy it is to move things around. The T5 engine is responsive yet economical. I wish the AWD was 4-WD so that it would use less gas.Jul 31, 2008

Owned Olav for a few weeks now -- daily commuting, a couple of trips into the Alps and a cruise from Geneva to the UK. Sublime seats and a great motorway cruiser - and copes with all the off-road challenges most of us will ever need. Will be interested to hear how passengers in the back find the car.
However, don't try racing away from the lights or over-taking in tight opportunities in twisty lanes. It's a bit of an oil-burner accelerating from a start uphill. Better value for money than alternatives from Audi.May 25, 2008

Volvo XC 06, warranty won't cover new engine due to timing belt
My car has been leaking coolant so i went in on Monday to get it looked at. They said I need to replace my water pump (leaking) and my timing belt because of my current mileage. since they were about to close and it was the day before Xmas Eve, I went home. I'm at 156,000 miles. The day after, i drove it to run some errands and it sounded like it was bottoming out. Wouldn't start so I got it towed to the shop. Turns out my water pump failed, then my timing belt loosened and my engine failed. The warranty company, which i haven't used yet, said they wouldn't cover the timing belt because it's a "maintenance issue" I've only had the car for a year and have put 10,000 miles on it. Bought it at 140,000. The repair shop tried to tell the warranty person that the dealership should have replaced the timing belt before selling it. So, the bill for a new engine is $7,000. I will have to just sell my car for parts at this point. Is this worth buying a used engine and seeing if my friends dad, who is a mechanic, will fix it for me? Anyone had experience with Elite Warranty ? Feel like I'll just have to get a new car but wanted to see if there was a chance for me to salvage this.
