When starting the 99 villager Mercury van it just a hair spinning sound
When I turn the ignition key I don't hear no click I don't hear no nothing I don't hear no engagement with the engine all I hear is a spinning sound

This one we had for 11 years! It just wasn't quitting! Minimum maintenance was required, barely any work was done to it, and it was with salvaged title. Engine and transmission were from Nissan Quest, so that was one of the reasons for reliability. We drove it for 120,000 miles!Apr 16, 2015

This five door Mercury Villager is a spacious ride with plenty of leg and head room to accommodate the largest of soccer players. The cargo area is large enough to store an entire teams equipment. It drives like a dream, the gas mileage is so-so . Overall a great ride.

my step mom sold me this van back in april (09) with a blown headgasket. i fixed it the cheap and easy way with a headgasket repair kit, and now 5 months later the headgasket blew again, and now im in the process of repairing itOct 02, 2009

STRANGE SPORADIC HEATER PROBLEM 99 mercury villager
My 99 mercury villager developed heater problems years back and has gotten worse to where the heater is stone cold ice cold and i mean zero heat if the engine is not at 2000 rpm or higher. (there is no heat when driving around in town--it must be on the highway steady higher rpm) At times the heat is hotter than hell. There are times when the heat mysteriously blows burning hot even idling for a bit--but will go cold again or it may not re-occur for weeks or months. When I first noticed the problem a few years ago I could rev the engine while parked and the heat would blast out the vents so hot I was concerned it could melt the workings inside and the plastic. For that reason I rule out the heater core. How could a bad heater core work sporadically?? I note that the heater core cannot be replaced--it requires dissembling everything and would be 4 times the value of the van. One person mentioned the vent flap that switches between hot or cold--but then said nothing more about it or how to check it or where it is. Can anyone point me in the right direction?? In winter weather the vehicle can barely be used and if not fixable- -I have to sell it. Water pump being bad is ruled out--in summer I can drive up a long pass in 120 (I live now in Las Vegas-yes it gets that hot) heat and the engine does not even begin to overheat. Not the thermostat--been replaced a couple times. Vehicle has about 240 thousand miles and runs like a top. Better mileage than what its rated for. Belts etc--have been replaced never made a difference for heater.

Whats going on with my car?
It will start and run, good performance for approximately 30 minutes then it starts backfiring and losing performance then dies out and want start. Smelling raw fuel as well. I let it sit overnight and next day it repeats the same issues.
