How does one reset, or get the rear wiper to relearn its park position? wiper
My rear wiper doesn't seem to go back to it's original park position. Also doesn't want to start without being nodged.

The 1999 Ford Explorer had a curvier, bulkier look than the previous years' models. An exterior redesign gave the body new heft and gravitas; the same sense of safety and solidity was reflected in some interior innovations, like front side airbags. Larger bumpers and the new Reverse Sensing System (which beeped when the SUV got too close to another vehicle or object) also highlighted Ford's emphasis on safety and security.
Trim choices for the '99 Ford Explorer included Sport, XL, XLS, XLT, Eddie Bauer, and Limited. Four-wheel drive was available at all trim levels, and all-wheel drive was available in the XLT, Eddie Bauer, and Limited trims. The Sport trim offered only a two-door bodystyle; the other trims were all four-door models.
There were plenty of choices under the hood, as well. Buyers of the 1999 Explorer had their pick of three engines: a 5.0 liter V-8 with a 215-horsepower output, a 4.0 liter single overhead cam V-6 that delivered 205 horsepower, or a 4.0 liter V-6 that putted along at 160 horses.
The '99 Explorer continued to lead the sport-utility vehicle market; buyers weren't put off a bit by its size or by its less-than-impressive fuel efficiency (14-18 mpg city, 19-23 highway, depending on model). Big, safe vehicles were what the buying public was looking for, and that's what Ford delivered with the Explorer.

In addition, the build quality is bar none for a truck like this in its class. The gas mileage, maintenance and repair costs are very fair for a truck like this. As for performance, Im not sure where to start. Reliable starts even after being parked for a while. The acceleration, braking and handling are excellent. I was able to pull my 2700lb boat with this truck with ease and piece of mind.

Have never had any major issues with them usually get a different one when approaching 180,000 miles, or I see one that just wows me. I didn't know how to take care of a car the first time I purchased a vehicle. Needless to say I kept it for a few years and it had to go. My Second Explorer, I managed to keep the fluids in check and changed and the only thing thats happened is normal wear and tare. I've had her for 9 going on 10 years. And she is 15 years old. The size is not big enough for our families needs but overall is a great small SUV. It handles well, especially in the snow. Never got stuck and we live on a big hill. Has plenty of power and we used it to haul our boat. Drove it across country and it has been a trustworthy vehicle.Aug 01, 2013

Have put 223,000 miles on vehicle since new. The transmission has not been replaced, but is getting "clunky". We never hauled anything, only kids, dog, and cargo. Has held up well, but is showing age and mileage now. Would recommend the bigger engines (ours has SOHC V6, not base V6) as they seemed to have held up better over time, especially if not hauling large loads.
Acceleration is not what it used to be when new. No jump to vehicle. Gas mileage has gone down.Jul 26, 2013

Performance: Average acceleration, braking and handling.
Build Quality: No major repairs @ 175,000. Sunroof leaks some. Rear hatch rattles over large bumps.
Appearance: Good. Clean and simple inside and out.
Cost of Ownership: Gas mileage not great, 16-17mpg average. Maintenance cost are not bad.

Terrible rear suspension. Ford only put in 1 rear leaf spring in some models causing the rear to sag. 4 abs sensors lead to rediculous lights on the dash and a pulsing in the pedal. I loved this truck. I put over $10,000 dollars into this truck in the course of 5 years. It was great for off roading and rock climbing but not so great for daily driving, especially at high speeds on the interstate. The steering box still needed some work as well as other steering components. The 4 wheel drive is great. The quality is ok. Great speed even with a blown tranie. Pig on gas and maintenance is well better left unsaid.
Its the best for off roading and speed.

Love it. Has about 250km on it, needed minimal work and this has seen true off road! Gas mileage in city isn't the greatest, but amazing on hwy. Acceleration pedal sticks a little. Paint has lasted, and minimal rust on back hatch. I do wish it had a more aggressive look.Jul 05, 2010

My explorer had a 4.0 V6 that I didn't like as an automobile.
.However, I did like it as a lawn ornament.There were 120,000 miles
on it
The engine was very unresponsive. The handling was very ok. It
could turn on a dime. It was fords version of a "crapy Jeep Wrangler. It
was built very poorly and I was always going to get repairs on it.
I paid $1,700 for the ford ...... thats how much that they should
have paid me!
I had put over $2,500 into repairs for this car.(Classic Ford stuff) In

Has plenty of room for myself and 4 friends comfortably with the power of a sports car. All wheel drive so its virtually impossible to lose traction on wet pavement.

Shifting could be better, but for a V6 with a five speed auto, it has a good amout of power! I love how much room there is inside. I love how well it handles in winter weather. Styling is phenomenal! it a such a sporty looking SUV, one of the best looking out there! Its a strong truck that we can get in and drive problem free. we have taken it across the country on extreme last minute things and it will go no problem. it has plenty of power and the handling is amazing. the body is in great shape and it gets 20mpg highway. we filled it up with cement when working on our house and it drove through cities and highway like there was nothing in it. over all i could not be more pleased in a car.Aug 13, 2008

Great vehicle. learned to drive on it and compare all other cars to it. Handling is sturdy, needs to take sharp turns slower but that is expected. Easy to do small maintainence but costs a fourtune to take to a shop. Can hit a buck at 50+ mph and only break a headlamp cover. Jul 22, 2008

I love my explorer. It'll take me anywhere i want to go I just put some brand new 31x10.50 BFG All Terrain TA's on it. I have 196 thousand miles on it and it still runs great. It's not fast by any means but it has enough torque to haul my boat or my trailer. i have had to do some work on it. but power steering pumps and ball joints will always always go out any car. the only thing i don't like about it, is the gas mileage. I drove all interstate on one tank of gas and i averaged 14 miles a gallon with the cruise set at 65. and it doesn't have the 5.0 or the 4.6L v8's. i have the 4.0L Over Head Valve V6 . Every Explorer is different. Mine in particular is a love-hate relationship. It's 10 years old so it certainly needs/has had its share of repairs. Aside from that however, I love everything about it. The '02 Explorer I had before this one is a little quicker, but it can still giddyup when it needs to. I've added a K&N filter and flowmaster 40 w/ 2.5'' pipes to give the 4.0L some breathing room, as well as an Almani 800W 4 channel amp, Kenwood headunit, and 4 Alpine 5x7's at 250W a piece to enhance my own experience.Mar 16, 2008

Ford did a good job on the 1999-2001 V8 Explorers and Mercury Mountaineers. V6 transmissions are a little weak if you work them hard, but the V8 powertrain as a whole is very strong and reliable.Feb 14, 2008

My truck has a climate control, it works ok, but only blowing cold air, the blend door actuator it´s ok, and when I turn the key I ear a funny click 3 or 4 times, also the temp indicator is mostly showing a cold engine, there was a leak on the termostat housing, but I fixed it, I don´t know where is this click coming from, bt I´m sure That is not the actuator because I opened and the gears and the motor are ok, so I´m running out of ideas, if somebody can tell what else to check
