MyJeep Cherokee has been one of my best vehicles I have ever owned. I've owned around 40 vehicles in my lifetime. I owned 2 Cherokee's and both of them are still running today. My 87 was a 4dr w/4wd. It was reaching the 300k range and didn't miss a beat when I sold it.
The thing I hated about both of them was the rear hatch. They started to leak and new seal didn't help. They were garage kept so I really didn't look into it further. I believe they both use the nissan pathfinder overdrive transmissions. I don't care for the ignition coil that it uses. I've replaced it twice. Think I'll rewire it so I can use a MSD blaster 2 coil that should kill two birds w/one stone. Oct 05, 2014

All and all I love this car it's run nicely for me except an old hose or two but upkeep is easy and she would be the best car ever if she wasn't always so thirsty.but this car gets you where you need to go and it might not be lightening fast but you will get there!Jan 28, 2014

It was my offroad truck. Had 33" tires, locker, winch, bumpers, skidplates, rock rails and she went everywhere. It was a great truck, loved the fact I could go to pick and pull and get whatever I needed. The 4L I6 was...well, legendary, it was great and powerful. Mar 08, 2012

Good mileage about 24 mpg. Fun to drive in the mud.Handles good drives well. Had the fan clutch and thermostat go out. Now i may be having the water pump going out on me not really for sure. I love my jeep!!!!!!!!!!!!!Apr 05, 2011

I like that it is a five speed. The 2.4 liter engine sip gas. It is built solidly just like any Jeep. I feel like I can take that bitch anywhere. It does not have the best appearance, but a classic Jeep's job is to be functional. Cheap to maintain, a tune up costs a little bit more than an oil change.Dec 13, 2010

I hate that the doors are welded on. Now I can't use the driver side because the hinge is broken, and the passenger side is sagging. But for suck an inexpensive ride, it's great. And very safe and sturdy overall.Nov 28, 2010

They may not look like much, but the Cherokee has a personality of its own that
grows on you the more you drive it. It has decent power, handling, and brakes,
and is very reliable. I love driving mine, even though it's a beater with over 200k

Ah Tank my latest pos, the best I've owned by far, a jeep. Another sturdy well bulit machine. But pretty ugly, early to mid-nineties paint peels as it gets older, didn't on the lhs though surprisingly. Accelerated quickly but at 15yrs old and over 200k miles it didn't last long for me.. :( Im selling the body to someone who wants to fix it up and drive it.Jan 06, 2010

Build Quality-all you gotta do is throw a lift on it and it will

the jeep cherokee is the best off-road vehicle every made. i
think that a wrangler is a cheater vehicle. you can put a 2 inch
budget lift on it and can go through just as much as you can in
a cherokee with a 4 inch lift. i think it takes more talent to be
able to fourwheel a cherokee. i would love to get another

I can go trails' ablazin and actually get around in the snow. The radio randomly turns off when it wants to and it's always neat to see oxidizing metal fall off the quarter panels. But it's got the 318 and aftmarket dana 44's. Jul 11, 2009

You can take this thing anywhere. we blast trails through snow so far up to 2 ft deep, it takes a few times but man shell go. Its stock, and handles mud with no problems I've had it deep enough to loose track of the headlights. To sum up, it get-r-done in all weather.Jan 09, 2009

Probably the best car I've ever owned. I owned more than a dozen cars before but this was and still is my ultumate best "Old faithfull". This Jeep Cherokee was red with 2 doors flat black around the bottom with minimal rust. I put on 30" tires GSA with 15" x 7" black Cragar rims Series 767 with chrome center caps. There is a 2" coil and add a leaf suspension lift kit. Over all fun off road machine. There is a lot of work done with suspension because I had problems with the "DEATH SHAKE."Sep 15, 2008

I bought this car three years ago with over 150,000 miles on it. I've driven this car daily with little to no problems. Motor runs like new. I got the transmission rebuilt at 183,000 miles and since then it has driven like a champ. Gas mileage could be better for a six cylinder but i still average 17 city/22 highway. I also run mid-grade fuel which because of the high output motor gets the good fuel economy. I loved this truck so much I've bought two more. Jeep hit the nail on the head with the Cherokee, I wish they hadn't stopped making them.Sep 12, 2008

The 4.0 high output I-6 coupled with the Aisin-
Warner AX15 5-speed manual is an unbeatable drive
train. Suspension flex is ok, but would be better with
jks disconnects and removal of the rear sway bar. The
rear dana 35 axle is sturdy and the np242 transfer

Cheap, easy to drive, great for learning.
It has a little bit of get-up-and-go when you hit the gas, and the 4 wheel drive system makes it so you can go just about anywhere.
Unfortunately, the car has a mediocre ride and wind noise as bad as my motorcycle! It's no luxury car, but I've made long trips in it without much fuss. (It tows pretty well, too). It hasn't really had much problems mechanically aside from an oil leak and a weak starter (after 100,000+ miles). Body parts have been an issue, though... front bumper got pretty rusty, and the black plastic side moldings have been falling off.Jul 08, 2008

Cup holders in a crappy spot, i think it was an after thought when it was designed. the all wheel drive feature is nice for winter. has tons of power. With the ABS is stops much better in the rain then previous models. Beside the gas bill, i love itJun 14, 2008
