This car was the most reliable vehicle I’d ever owned. I had a 2000 Mustang in College back in 2007. Obviously, it wasn’t the best to drive in snowy Iowa winters. I was given this car by my dad’s friend after it sat in a barn for years. Well, my dad got it running and I drove it during the winter and stored the Mustang. With over 336,000 miles I never once felt unsafe and it never failed me. It was a 5 speed manual GL coupe. I finally have to give it up when my foot almost went through the floorboard the bottom was so rusted. To this day I miss that car. It’s truly a shame that Ford doesn’t make reliable bulletproof vehicles like this anymore. I’m now a Volkswagen fanboy with a 2023 Arteon SEL Premium R-line 4Motion but I’ll always have a place in my heart for that little Tempo that kept me safe hours from home.Nov 08, 2023

I bought this car for 700 dollars. What I
needed to replace was a gas tank, brakes,
routers, the muffler is completely rusted. I
drove this car for almost 2 years and all of a
sudden the wheel bearing died and my rear tire
fell off. I'm lucky I wasnt driving on a
highway. Besides that, this old thing got me
back and forth 6 hour car rides all the time
and it made it just fine. The car looks nice
and the seats inside are comfortable. Mine
came with a really nice stereo and cd player
from the previous owner. This car is good for
a first car but not something that will last
too long because eventually it will fall apart
:( It gets really loud. It was a good first car
and for 700 dollars, I got my money worth out
of it. also, if you hit something or another
car, they get damaged, you dont. You can run
this car in anything and it can barely get a
mark. and I can go 4 hours driving until it
gets on E. I also kept up with oil changes but
I had a problem with the antifreeze coolant. I
would always have to refill that and maintain

Fairly good performance for 2.3Liter, Still runs great with good gas mileage fair on expense except for a few design flaws sure was not made to drive on Michigan's pot filled roads.Body has held up very well for being a Mi. car. Main problems seat-belt shoulder strap motors do not last, struts and coil springs are not as strong as I would like and water pump is a poor designFeb 03, 2011

Performance - 4cyl engine, braked decent, handed alright
Build Quality - Had to replace the starter, coolant hose, front tires and brakes, wheel bearings. Rusted out
Appearance - Ugly car, comfortable seats.
Cost - gas mileage was decent, maintenance isn't worth it.

This was by far the worst car I've ever owned. Within two weeks of buying the car, we had to replace the alternator, which started a huge slide of repairs made that exceeded the cost of the car itself. I would never, ever buy another Ford again after that car. Aug 20, 2009

Best car ever, it was a beast, but it was my beast....power gas mileage, spaceous....
it was a beater to the bone.
Ownership is cheap....buy it cheap..maintain it cheaper

very good condition and runs smoothly, runs better than the lumina which the lumina is 6 ft under. transmission was slipping and it boils over.
very cheap for insurance, interior spotless, low mileage, older lady owned it and took care of it.

The red and white one was a 1988 which Rob totaled on me...repairing the damage resulted in the birth of the Super Tempo. When it had to go to car Heaven it was replaced with the Super Tempo 2...complete with many extra's, including the custom paint job done by Mike.Apr 01, 2008

Initially I bought this car as a daily driver, then sold it, the new owner found a major electrical problem with the lights. We did a trade for some work of mine and I got the car back. I thus, turned it into my off road machine. I installed a front skid pan, snorkel, larger tires, removed the muffler and installed a boom tube instead, removed the back seat, carpet and most of the trunk equipment. Plans are to change and improve my snorkel, repair the transmission that I destroyed last summer, install roof fog lights and possibly change the exhaust to a stack out the back.Mar 22, 2008

it sucked, the harmonic balancer goes out because its center gasket/washer wears down and causes the crackshaft pulley to throw the serpentine belt off everytime you tap the gas too hard.Feb 23, 2008

I paid $350 for this car, and drove it for 18 months and well over 45,000km. Ottawa's finest took it off the road when I accidentally jumped it through an intersection. I got pulled over, they took one look at the car, yanked my plates, gave me a ticket for Careless driving and Operating an Unsafe Motor Vehicle. Scrapped the car because I would have had to have a safety inspection done and it didn't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing. The body was starting to fall apart anyways.
I'll never forget this car, the original "Mr. T". Lots of good times. It was a 2.3L auto. Donated a few parts to my "new" Tempo, even after it was in the junkyard I pulled parts off it for months. It has since been crushed. Feb 02, 2008

93 ford tempo dies when turning corners
my dad got me a 93 ford tempo its my first car and every since i got it it seemed to run just fine but now its starting to die just out of the blue i took it in twice the first time he changed my spark plugs the thing there in and a gas filter because it was clogged after that it seemed to run just fine then again it started to die again same thing while turning corners it seems like its not getting enough gas for when i slow down so i took it a second time this time he replaced my iac and seemed to run fine and now its starting to die again if anyone can help that would be great because this is starting to make me mad and i already just put over $200 into it to still just be guessing what the problem is if anyone can help or just give some advise that would be great

I have a 93 tempo with 2.4 engine there is a metal cover on the crankshaft pulley with timing marks on it, somehow it is moving making a loud knocking sound. What can be done for that??
