I was driving one day and lost all power barely made it up the hill. When I got to the top it dumped all the coolant since then it will barely start and when it does the pedal has to be to the floor. The thing barely hits 1000 rpm with the pedal on the the floor at the moment. Anyone know what the problem could be?
My son owns a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 4.0 engine and 81,000 miles. It is very clean and has always been well maintained and always in the family. This is why I may be willing to pay more than it may be worth. While driving home the water pump seized and it over heated. We replaced the water pump and thermostat. It is still overheating and there are metal shavings in the oil. I assume that the head is warped and has caused internal damage. I am trying to discern whether to install a re- manufactured engine or have the existing one rebuilt. Using the VIN shows that an original long block is not available. I have heard some reports that the re-man long block (from NAPA) does not come with OEM parts and there have been some failures. I found a local shop that builds race engines and rebuilds engines using OEM parts (depending on the condition of the core which may need to be replaced). The re-man from the dealership comes with a better warranty but the rebuild has a minimal warranty. Which would the best way for me to go?

Just bought a 91 Cherokee Jeep 4.0l 2wd with roughly 316000 miles from original owner..overheats and runs hot. Owner says has cracked gasket and lower radiator hose. Bought the car, eplaced radiator hose, added gasket sealer from autozone and coolant. Drove it 3 miles before I heard a knock then the engine shut off and started smoking at the light. Parked at the nearest store, and it was running on almost no oil. Cranks but does not start. I bought Lucas oil treatment 1 qt along with 2qts of motor oil. Letting it sit for 24 hours then I will go and maybe add a gas additive along with starter fluid. Any other suggestions?
I have a 91 jeep Cherokee and I would like to know which year models I can get parts from. I am looking at buying a 89 just for it's parts (body and mechanical) will this work?
