It is not within the capacity of the English language to sufficiently express my feelings for this car. And unfortunately, I don't speak Italian.
There are many cars that are faster and more technically nimble than this little Alfa. There are many too that convey more socio-economic cachet. But I daresay that there are very few which can match the sultry character and downright 'fun' factor of this automobile.
That's not to say that there aren't some contenders out there. Take the Mazda Miata for instance. It's a blast to drive, sporty, and reliable. But it's so inoffensive as to be somewhat 'soul-less'. And of course there are those who would claim that the classic British MG and Triumph roadsters hold the high-water mark for motoring perfection. These cars certainly have lots of soul--but unfortunately it's the simple, unsophisticated kind.
The Alfa is altogether different. It is a no-excuses, love me or leave me, sophisticated automobile that demands the respect of it's driver. The mechanical symphony played by the all-alloy, dual overhead cam, four-valve-per-cylinder wonder of an engine sends chills up your spine while rising to a crescendo at 7,000 RPM. Like gazing at the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, it is a sensation that must be experienced to be fully comprehended. There is quite simply nothing like the sound of a high-revving, Italian engine.
The multi-link suspension is direct and responsive without being harsh. The steering is as smooth as freshly-shaved Italian ice on a hot, summer day. And the classic, Pininfarina-designed lines are as classy looking today as they were when first drawn in 1964.
And you know what? Even though this was my daily driver for close to two years, it was one of the most reliable cars I've owned. Of course, when it did need fixin'....well, you get what you pay for, I guess.
I sold the car--reluctantly--because of its impracticality in the context of a five-person family. But I will never regret, or forget, the experience of owning this little Italian masterpiece. Oct 29, 2008

Very nice shape and the last real spider with rear wheel drive. Engine is weak and handling and braking is more like a boat than a car but it's an abolute cutie!Mar 25, 2008
