Built as 1957-1970 models the Amazon is imho one of the best built cars of the 60's. Designed for a V8 but ended up with the small 60hp 444 engine it still had nice enough qualities to compete with more expensive cars. With the 75hp B18 (1961) it was no rocket but the same engine with modified head/carbs could give the weight/hp ratio of many muscle cars of that era - with a competitive mpg as well. The 115hp 123GT in 1967 never became a success since the design even by Volvostandards was outdated. With 1969 models the GT was dropped and the "new" B20 arrived, the last positive update for this old dinosaur.Sep 17, 2009
